Brief Introduction:
Gene as been doing woodworking for longer than I can remember. I met him about 10 years ago and he became very interested in CNC and LASER as tools to perfect his craft. We worked together and I did whatever I could to add to his considerable knowledge. Now, he’s made some interesting products, including some very similar to our own, and we’re showcasing them here on our website. In His Own Words:
Hi, I am Gene Erickson. I retired from my programming job with a large CRS in the Denver, Colorado metro area in 2001. My main focus before and after retirement was jackpot team roping both in Elizabeth, Colorado and Battle Ground, Washington. Many winters we traveled to Casa Grande, Arizona to practice and Jackpot roping until my back finally told me no more. That was something that was extremely hard for me to do as I had team roped for over 30 years. Selling my horses was even harder.
After that I found myself back in our workshop making various projects. My Grandfather was a carpenter by trade and my father was into woodworking as a hobby ever since I can remember. As a result, I found myself watching my dad and practicing by myself. Over the years I used that early experience to build our workshop and create many things. I also had interest in metal working and started a small company making custom trailers. When the insurance companies raised their rates from $1200 per year to over $5000 I was forced to shut the business down. We moved to Battle Ground, WA in 2005 and spent the summers in our 39’ boat cruising the San Juan Islands and further North. We did this for 5 years before my wife said she wanted to stay home more.
Again, I found myself in our shop with no real direction until I had a sign carved on CNC machine for my daughter and her husband by an individual who has become a very good friend. After learning more about a CNC router carving machine and talking to CNC owners, I elected to purchase one in 2014. I continue to learn about all facets and capabilities of this machine. I purchased a laser in 2018 to complement all the wood projects I get involved in. I can make just about anything a person wants.
